Our history

We are a family-owned group that has been present in Madagascar for 3 generations.

Our story began in 1880 when the Barday family arrived in Madagascar and launched a trading business between India and the Great Island.
In 1947, Haidaraly Jina Barday formally founded the family business, establishing it in Tsaralalàna, Antananarivo – now home to the Group’s headquarters.
Since then, three generations of dedicated men and women have carried forward the family’s legacy, driven by a shared mission to enhance the lives of the Malagasy people.
BASAN’s name reflects this family heritage – ‘B’ for Barday, and the first names of Haidaraly’s sons: ASgar and ANil.
